Excellent pizza dough is one of the key elements to a great pizza. Some of the great things about making your own pizza dough is fresh tastes best! You can’t beat homemade pizza dough. And the ingredients are relatively inexpensive; you can make a large amount of dough for little money.
What Is Easy Peasy Pizza Dough?
Although some doughs can be time-consuming and requiring a lot of steps (like Neapolitan pizza dough), our easy peasy pizza dough is just as the name suggests – an easy to make pizza dough that also makes a satisfying slice!
One of the best things about this recipe is that it is easy to make. You only need a few ingredients: flour, active dry yeast, sugar, salt, warm water, and olive oil.
You can make the dough by hand or with a stand mixer. I like using a stand mixer because it is easier and a good way to ensure all your ingredients are fully incorporated. I’ve had my Kitchenaid Artisan stand mixer for at least 15 years now and it’s still going strong!
Ingredients You Need

- 2 ¼ teaspoons (one envelope) of active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 cup of warm water between 100-110 F
- 2 ½ cups of bread flour
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
How to Make Easy Peasy Pizza Dough
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
- In a medium bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in water. Let stand until creamy, about 10 minutes. Ensure your water is between 100-110 F. Hotter water will kill your yeast, and colder water will make it take much longer to activate (although you will not get a lot of rise with this dough).
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. You do not want the salt to touch the yeast directly, as it will kill it.
- After the yeast, sugar, and water mixture is creamy, add in the flour and salt mixture, about ½ cup at a time, incorporating it. Alternate between adding the flour and olive oil, beginning and ending with flour. Reserve about 1 teaspoon of your olive oil to oil your pan and your hands later.
- After all the ingredients are incorporated, let it rest for five minutes.
- Lightly oil your pizza pan to help avoid sticking.
- After the dough has rested, lightly oil your hands and press the dough into a circular shape onto a pizza pan.
- Top with your favorite toppings.
- Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.

Substitutions and Variations
- As a substitution for pressing the dough out with your hands, you can roll it out with a rolling pin. Some people are adamantly against that, but I do not feel it ruins your pizza. It just gives it a bit of a denser structure. If you choose to roll it out, place it on a pizza pan (or peel) before placing your toppings on it. It is challenging to move a pizza that has been sauced and topped!
- If you do not have bread flour, you can substitute all-purpose flour.
- You can also use this recipe to cook your pizza in an outdoor pizza oven, an indoor pizza oven, or on a pizza stone.

Additional Tips for Making the Recipe
- Make sure your water is between 100-110 F. It can be tricky getting it exactly right sometimes, so I microwave the water for a few seconds at a time. If I get it too hot, I pour some out and mix some cold water in instead of letting it cool naturally, which would take longer.
- If you make this in a stand mixer, dissolve the yeast and sugar in the mixer bowl. Then, add the flour, salt, and olive oil while it’s mixing. That saves you a bowl in clean-up, and you don’t have to worry about scraping all the yeast mixture out of a separate bowl.
- Let the pizza sit for about five minutes before cutting. It helps stop the toppings from all sliding off when you cut it, and also helps prevent the dreaded mouth roof top burn!

How to Store The Easy Peasy Pizza Dough
Lightly oil the dough ball and place it in plastic wrap and a container or bag. Remember, it will rise a little in the fridge, so ensure it has a little room to grow. You can keep it in the refrigerator for up to four days.
Alternatively, you can freeze it for up to three months. Just make sure the dough has completed its fermentation process before freezing. To freeze, divide the dough balls into two smaller balls. Lightly coat with olive oil and wrap in plastic wrap. Place the wrapped dough balls into a zip-top bag and squeeze out excess air before sealing.
How to Use After Storing
If it has been in the fridge, take it out for twenty minutes before using it as instructed above. If it has been frozen, let it thaw in the refrigerator overnight, and then take it out twenty minutes before using. You can combine the two divided balls into one or make two smaller pizzas.
Then, enjoy your homemade pizza the Easy Peasy way!
