What to Consider When Choosing the Best Mixer
When deciding the best mixer for pizza dough at home, you will want to consider a few things:

So with these factors in mind, here are some mixers for pizza dough you should evaluate for your kitchen!
Best Mixer for Pizza Dough at Home
KitchenAid KSM10PSER Artisan 5-Quart Stand Mixer

Okay, this stand mixer isn’t KitchenAid’s top shelf model. However, it’s at a reasonable price point but, more importantly, Heather has been using this for nearly 20 years! In our opinion, there’s no testimonial better than standing the test of time! I even tipped it over while cleaning under it and smashed a marble cutting board – the mixer didn’t even get scratched!
One notable limitation of this mixer is that its lower power means that KitchenAid does not make (nor recommend) a 5-quart spiral dough hook. You can get them on Amazon – but not from KitchenAid. This is because the spiral dough hook requires more force to use. We do use one (it’s great!), but always on the lowest setting.
Features:
- 5 Quart capacity – easily make up to 2 doughs at once
- Tilt-head design to easily add ingredients
- 10 speeds
- Stainless steel bowl that’s dishwasher safe
- 325 watt motor
- Attachments include: nylon coated dough hook, wire whip, nylon coated flat beater, pouring shield
- Numerous additional attachments are available for making a variety of other foods
- 20+ colors to match your kitchen
Limitations
- Motor power is slightly limited and it can overheat
- Not recommended for use with a spiral dough hook
- Included straight dough hook doesn’t quite get work the dough as well
Top of the Line
KitchenAid KSM70 7-Quart Bowl-Lift Stand Mixer

Although this stand mixer has double the power of the KitchenAid Artisan, the KSM70 is also nearly double the price. The other big difference here is the larger bowl. If you need to make a lot of dough (or are using this for large batches of other recipes), this is probably the closest home-use model to commercial – without actually being a commercial model.
Features:
- 7 Quart capacity – easily make up to 4 doughs at once
- Bowl-lift design for maximum stability and powerful mixing
- 11 speeds w/soft start and half speed for folding
- Stainless steel bowl that’s dishwasher safe
- 500 watt motor
- Attachments include: stainless steel dough hook, wire whip, stainless steel flat beater, stainless steel pastry beater, double flex edge beater, pastry beater scraper
- Numerous additional attachments are available for making a variety of other foods
- 11 colors to match your kitchen
Limitations
- Price point is high
- Takes up more space
Goldilocks
KitchenAid KSM55 5.5 Quart Bowl-Lift Stand Mixer

Okay, we don’t own the KSM55 – but only because after 20 years, our Artisan is still going strong. But when one day our spiral dough hook overworks this workhorse, this will be the mixer we buy because we believe this is the best mixer for pizza dough. It has all of the features of the KSM70 but is slightly smaller (and other than pizza parties, we are never really making big batches). It also comes with a spiral dough hook as standard.
Features:
- 5.5 Quart capacity – easily make up to 3 doughs at once
- Bowl-lift design for maximum stability and powerful mixing
- 11 speeds w/soft start and half speed for folding
- Stainless steel bowl that’s dishwasher safe
- 475 watt motor
- Attachments include: nylon coated spiral dough hook, wire whip, nylon coated flat beater
- Numerous additional attachments are available for making a variety of other foods
- 3 colors to match your kitchen
- Price point is often about the same as the Artisan
Limitations
- Comes in fewer colors
- Comes with fewer attachments, although many more can be purchased
- If you’re looking for this on Amazon, you won’t find it. But it can be found on the KitchenAid website or at Target (with one more color)
What Else is Out There?
There are a number of other brands and models on the market. And while we wouldn’t necessarily turn you away from them, when we’re recommending the best mixer for pizza dough, we’re going with our own experience. KitchenAid isn’t calling themselves the #1 Mixer Brand in the World for nothing.
But, you should do your research when buying something that could sit on your kitchen counter for years to come – and that’s why you’re reading this post!
Cuisinart Stand Mixer SM-50BC

- 5.5 Quart capacity – easily make up to 3 doughs at once
- Tilt-back head
- 12 speeds

Aucma Stand Mixer

The Aucma stand mixer is a very affordable entry point into stand mixers. Typically around $140, but sometimes even cheaper, this is a great value option.
Features:
- 6.5 Quart capacity
- Tilt-head design
- 6 speeds with pulse function
- Stainless steel bowl that’s dishwasher safe
- 660 watt motor
- Attachments include: dough hook, wire whip, flat beater

- Far less options for extra attachments
Final Word on Best Mixer for Pizza Dough
If you search further on Amazon, you will certainly find a lot more options for stand mixers. Some brands you may recognize like Hamilton Beach or GE, and others you probably won’t. I’m not saying these aren’t solid options. But based on our research, we don’t think we can assert that these should be on our list. If you’re serious about getting the best mixer for pizza dough, we think your best options are in our list!

Todd’s cooking skills have revolved around the grill since about age 12, when he developed a love for grilling and took over for Mom at the BBQ. He worked at Wendy’s and at Earl’s Tin Palace (a restaurant chain in Canada) but never really did any sort of baking…until he and Heather started making pizza together! Now he’s often making dough in the mornings and pizza in the evenings.
